About this work
Commemorative plaque to astronomer. Born in Aberdeen, educated in Marischal College, he took the first photographs of the moon in 1868. Appointed Her Majesty's Astronomer at the Cape of Good Hope in 1879 and elected Fellow of the Royal Society.
